Event Overview
What is Pub Chess?
Pub Chess attracts the complete range of players, from almost total beginners to expert League veterans. People just come along and play against their friends or challenge anyone they see. The pub provides chess sets, but if you prefer a competition sized board you can bring your own set and clock.
When & Where?
Our Pub Chess nights are held every Wednesday evening except for Christmas Day. They are in the downstairs bar of the Beer Emporium in King St right in the centre of town. (BS1 4EF if you need to check directions). Usually starts from about 7.30, people come and go when it suits them and there are often a few there till about 1 in the morning. Sometimes there are junior evenings which start at 6 pm (children are allowed in the pub until 9).

What to Expect
- Play without much formality: Engage in competitive chess games against a rival or just move the pieces while having a chat, there are no restrictions. Or you can discuss recent games with other players, or get tips on openings and online resources.
- Craft Beer and Pizza: This is a great draw for the pub which has its own chef, but beware, the larger pizzas are massive.
- Inclusive Atmosphere: Whether you’re a beginner or a chess master, Pub Chess is open to all skill levels. Come for a game, talk to people about how much chess there is going on in Bristol.
- Networking & Socializing: Meet like-minded chess enthusiasts, share strategies, and learn more about the game and the types of competition that are available.
We look forward to welcoming you to our next Pub Chess night.
